Explore Everywoman Series
Joan Harvey is an award-winning artist, living and working in rural Connecticut. She spent many years in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as on Cape Cod.
Her work has been inspired by the hum of Silicon Valley and the relaxed vibe of the Cape.
I keep a list of titles, words, lines from poems, expressions, emotions, random thoughts that I draw on to start a painting. I then find a figure whose posture expresses what I hope to portray. The backgrounds are primarily abstract, sometimes with an element that adds context to the painting. In this way, I hope to communicate with the viewer, as they add their own interpretation.

In our home we have several pieces of Joan’s, which we treasure. One evokes a woman contemplating the ever-changing universe, changing like the colors in it that shift with the light. Another is simply fun and glamorous, a woman that has embraced her beauty. There’s nothing like art to make you feel happy and connected
